Groups

Groups in Visual Guard provide a practical way to manage users collectively instead of individually. Rather than assigning roles and permissions to each user one by one, you can organize users into groups and assign access at the group level. This approach is especially useful in environments with many users, where managing access individually would quickly become time-consuming and error-prone.

Key Benefits

👥 Simplified User Management
Managing access through groups significantly reduces administrative effort. Instead of updating permissions for each user, you only need to manage the group, and all members are updated automatically.

Faster Onboarding and Offboarding
When a new user joins, simply adding them to the right group gives them immediate access to everything they need. Similarly, removing a user from a group instantly revokes access, making user lifecycle management much smoother.

🔐 Consistent Access Control
Groups ensure that users in similar roles or departments have consistent permissions. This avoids discrepancies that can occur with manual, user-by-user configuration.

🛠 Easier Maintenance
Changes to roles or permissions only need to be made once at the group level. All users within that group automatically receive the updates, reducing the risk of missed or inconsistent changes.

📊 Better Visibility and Auditing
It’s easier to review and understand access rights when they are structured around groups. Administrators can quickly see which groups have access to what, making audits and compliance checks more straightforward.

Best Practices

✔️ Create groups based on departments, teams, or job functions
✔️ Use clear and consistent naming conventions
✔️ Prefer group-based role assignment over individual user assignment
✔️ Regularly review group memberships to ensure accuracy

The Groups are a globality of roles/ users or permissions. Many actions can be done on these groups via the main page.
